A BSkyB spokesperson said that they have already entered into a deal with Universal Music, the label biggies, who currently have artists like Amy Winehouse, Kanye West and Duffy under their label. Later, the spokesperson while speaking to news agency Reuters, also said that though BSkyB’s launch schedule of the service has been delayed, their talks with several big and independent labels have shown good progress. Very soon, BSkyB is also likely to conclude suitable arrangements with other music publishers.
The launch of this new service would allow ardent music fans to store music without having to bother about Digital Rights Management, and they will be able to enjoy the music on television, computer and any other device. Customers of both Sky and non-Sky broadband, after paying a small fee per month, would have access to unlimited digital music and will also be able to download their favourite tunes from a selection of more than a million tracks.
Globally, around 40 billion tracks last year were downloaded either through illegal sharing amongst peers or via music piracy - these put together contributed to almost 95% of all online music downloads in 2008. This data was shared by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), the noted industry body. Of late, many ways to combat the music piracy problem have been suggested; most notable of these was the suggestion to enforce tax on music downloads. However, initiatives like this one by BSkyB are a preferred way to deal with this large-scale problem.

Want to Spend Less Money Calling People from Your Mobile?
November 27th, 2008
If like me you are feeling the effects of the infamous credit crunch, you might be interested to know there is a surprisingly simple way to save yourself a lot of cash. I use my mobile phone so much, it might as well be glued to my ear, so when I found out it was possible to make cheap calls without having to get a new SIM card - I was intrigued to say the least! There’s a fair few companies now which provide ‘mobile VoIP’, so essentially it’s like using Vonage as you would do at home accept on your mobile, wherever you are.
All you need to do is download an easy to install piece of software for your mobile phone which lets you make huge savings by routing calls over the internet rather than over your usual mobile carrier network. What’s great about the Truphone app in particular, it requires no technical expertise or anything. You just use your phone as you would do normally, except at a much lower cost. I get the feeling that this might spell the end of traditional mobile carrier networks, I have already saved a huge amount of money. It’s great for travelling as well as with my price package I pay the same low flat rate, and am not faced with roaming charges or anything.
