Colliding Galaxies and Black Holes
August 5th, 2010
Question: Since it’s true that galaxies have black holes at their center and if two galaxies were colliding, would those two colliding galaxies create one great black hole?
This is an interesting question from a few different physics perspectives. Astrophysics tells us that all galaxies are withdrawing or moving away from each other. At the same time we know that in the local sense this isn’t always the case. For example, the Milky Way Galaxy is going to collide with our neighbor the Andromeda Galaxy in five billion years. There are many examples of interacting galaxies that are observable from Earth that are colliding with one another. The Hubble Telescope and other powerful telescopes can detect vast plumes or jets emitted from the polar axis of black holes in the center of galaxies and quasi-stellar objects. We also know that after a large star collapses and makes a supernova which a small black hole can form in its heart. Supernovae so approximate the first few nano seconds of the phenomenon of colliding galaxies that there is an entire subdivision of astronomy committed to the discovery and study of supernovae. That’s why we at Windowpane Observatory have made possible the name a star program, which grants those interested in astronomy and science an opportunity to participate by contributing to astronomy research into supernovae and the search for earth-bound asteroids.
Effects of Algebra
June 19th, 2010
Algebra is one of the most fundamental and superior branches of maths. Although at beginning it may seem to just fly over your head, practice helps in making understanding matters a lot better. pupils will have to study this for many stages, thus it is critical to create a strong base from the beginning.
Areas that are Problematic
Algebra covers a vast number of topics, graphing curves being one of them. This could include charting a circle, graphing systems of linear equations , graphing inequalities or graphing quadratic equations. Another topic that is part of algebra has to do with exponents. This can range from subtracting exponents, dividing exponents or just using the laws of exponents. Rationalizing, factorizing, matrices, hyperbolas and quadratics all have to do with algebra.
It is commonly agreed that algebra is a tough subject area. Even So, in today’s day and age that is not a problem as nearly all student is capable of accessing and using a computer. One can easily use online math computer programs that instruct and test students. These computer programs also have worksheets to help students practice and improve their mastery. Online tutors are also accessible and are easy to reach. These tutors charge an hourly rate and tutor pupils as if they were face to face.
Getting Help with Algebra
For helping pupils, there are a large number of software package available on the Net. These programs provide gradual guides to help pupils through their troubles. These software packages can help you with your homework, test preparation and even exam preparation! As algebra has a vast number of sub-sections you can select software packages that relate to your specific difficulty or problem. This could be radical equations, inequalities, functions, or just graphing. Some software packages also include games and videos that could further develop your algebraic skills.
Algebra calculators are one of the most important tools available for helping your skills in algebra. They can help solve many types of algebraic questions. Mostly these will include questions that have to do with fractional equations or complex inequalities . Various types of calculators help students to focus on various fields of algebra.
Though these software programs and other aids can aid many students solve a great number of problems, it is important that they are applied for the proper function. Using these facilities for cheating would only be a loss to yourself. It is better to use them to check the answers of your review exams rather than using them to complete the assignments.
Advantages and Disadvantages of SOLAR ENERGY
June 1st, 2010
Many of us know that solar energy is good, but few really understand why.
Therefore, I compiled a comprehensive list of solar energy advantages and disadvantages that will enable you to make an educated decision whether on not Solar Power is right for YOU.
Solar Energy Advantages
1. Saves you money
- After the initial investment has been recovered, the energy from the sun is practically FREE.
- The recovery/ payback period for this investment can be very short depending on how much electricity your household uses.
- Financial incentives are available form the government that will reduce your cost.
- If your system produce more energy than you use, your utility company can buy it from you, building up a credit on your account! This is called net metering.
- It will save you money on your electricity bill if you have one at all.
- Solar energy does not require any fuel.
- It’s not affected by the supply and demand of fuel and is therefore not subjected to the ever-increasing price of gasoline.
- The savings are immediate and for many years to come.
- The use of solar energy indirectly reduces health costs.
2. Environmentally friendly
- Solar Energy is clean, renewable (unlike gas, oil and coal) and sustainable, helping to protect our environment.
- It does not pollute our air by releasing carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide, sulphur dioxide or mercury into the atmosphere like many traditional forms of electrical generations does.
- Therefore Solar Energy does not contribute to global warming, acid rain or smog.
- It actively contributes to the decrease of harmful green house gas emissions.
- It’s generated where it is needed.
- By not using any fuel, Solar Energy does not contribute to the cost and problems of the recovery and transportation of fuel or the storage of radioactive waste.
3. Independent/ semi-independent
- Solar Energy can be utilized to offset utility-supplied energy consumption. It does not only reduce your electricity bill, but will also continue to supply your home/ business with electricity in the event of a power outage.
- A Solar Energy system can operate entirely independent, not requiring a connection to a power or gas grid at all. Systems can therefore be installed in remote locations (like holiday log cabins), making it more practical and cost-effective than the supply of utility electricity to a new site.
- The use of Solar Energy reduces our dependence on foreign and/or centralized sources of energy, influenced by natural disasters or international events and so contributes to a sustainable future.
- Solar Energy supports local job and wealth creation, fuelling local economies.
4. Low/ no maintenance
- Solar Energy systems are virtually maintenance free and will last for decades.
- Once installed, there are no recurring costs.
- They operate silently, have no moving parts, do not release offensive smells and do not require you to add any fuel.
- More solar panels can easily be added in the future when your family’s needs grow.
Solar Energy Disadvantages
- The initial cost is the main disadvantage of installing a solar energy system, largely because of the high cost of the semi-conducting materials used in building one.
- The cost of solar energy is also high compared to non-renewable utility-supplied electricity. As energy shortages are becoming more common, solar energy is becoming more price-competitive.
- Solar panels require quite a large area for installation to achieve a good level of efficiency.
- The efficiency of the system also relies on the location of the sun, although this problem can be overcome with the installation of certain components.
- The production of solar energy is influenced by the presence of clouds or pollution in the air.
- Similarly, no solar energy will be produced during nighttime although a battery backup system and/or net metering will solve this problem. See www.dsireusa.org for details on how net metering allows you to save electricity and money.
- As far as solar powered cars go - their slower speed might not appeal to everyone caught up in today’s rat race.

ACR Periodicals and Medical Physics News
April 6th, 2010
Time to time the inquiry will arise, providers of medical physics consulting, whether value may exist in offering a standard periodical to clarify the improvements in the industry and provide guidance to the reader in understandingthe changes A Medical Physics quarterly can provide a considerable benefit for appreciated customers and affiliates. There are assorted reasons why this is the case and it is our role to develop this.
Is this worth doing? Is the ACR already filling this need?
You might want to know why to proceed in such an endeavor - At the most basic level the function of a regular medical physics publication is to add value. Supplying value is a matter that is near to us as a consumer when we consider which products and services to engage with, and as a business owner both when we discuss what services to provide and who we trust to support us.I appreciate what Harry Kafka said of value on his competitive branding website. “The concept of “value” is somewhat elusive for most of us, which becomes evident if you ask people to DEFINE its meaning.” he goes on to say that “To take this into the realm of customer-experience, we could state that those concepts of usefulness and importance which THEY have attributed to our products / services / the area in which these are used is what constitutes VALUE for them.”
A quarterly newsletter developed for the benefit of those who provide or are in need of physics consulting can touch many topics. A brief list of possibilities includes Industry news, information about ACR Accreditation, Technical information, Credentialing news, and Radiation safety info.
The subscriber can also learn about developments closer to home, recent staff changes, new service features, and ideas on how to get the most value out of diagnostic physics services.
It doesn’t matter how you are oriented to the periodical, the purpose remains to do more for you, to meet your needs. Making your lives a little bit easier and more productive will in the end make the maturation of this regular publication noteworthy.

The Beauty of Wind Power
February 3rd, 2010
The beauty is that you can do this and still have high quality diy wind power. This took many years and a lot of breakthroughs, but now you can get the parts you need for little cost without sacrificing efficiency. When you put together your diy wind power system, you don’t want to have any doubts. This means the plans shouldn’t be ambiguous or hard to understand. The difference between now and then is that now there are a set of plans teach regular people how to benefit from this renewable energy. By building the project for the lowest possible cost and not reducing the effectiveness, you can profit too. This article is to help you succeed and save money. There are a lot of reasons why wind power for homes is becoming very poplar now. The most important reason is how affordable personal wind power has become. The investment is about $150 and will produce 750-1000 watts (more if you use wooden blades). Of course, harnessing it is the problem. There are a number of reasons why wind power is part of our energy solution. First, it produces no pollution or greenhouse gases. Second, it is renewable and will last for as long as our son ? about another four billion years. Third, wind energy is available in practically any country, which means no reliance on foreign sources. Fourth, wind power produces more jobs per watt produced than all other energy platforms, including oil and coal. Because of this and the fact that you can now generate power cheaper than ever before, the popularity of domestic wind power is climbing exponentially. This is excellent for the earth, but also very great for peoples budgets. Source: Wind Turbines
Explore Fishing Lures
November 14th, 2009
Projected to look like a fish prey item, a fishing lure
is something that is used in nonprofessional fishing that comes tied to a fishing line. The secret of the lure lies
in that it catches the fishes attention by movement, vibe or color eventually driving the fish to bite its hook.
Almost all of the time,
distinct types of hooks, single;double; even triple hooks are attached to lures. Unremarkably they are used with a fishing rod and a reel. Fishing lures come in diverse types and the majority of them are fashioned in unique ways to look like fish prey. There are detailed types that are designed to make the fish angry, interested and aggrevate territorial agression as well..
What is Jig?
A jig is a very popular fishing lure which curbs a hook weighted with a
lead head in front of the sharp tip. These are usually hidden with a plastic worm to grab the attention of the fish although the
user would have to move the rod to make the jig motion. Moreover, some jigs are made for various grounds such as for casting or flipping, jigs for glass beds or vegetation and
swimming jigs, bucktail jigs and so on.
Spinnerbaits
Spinnerbaits are parts of wire which are bent to an angle of about 60 degrees with a hook and a mechanics make the whole thing twist. These own one or more metal blades that are planned to spin as a propellor when the lure moves through the water and create flash and shaking or motion similar to a small fish. Several of these spinnerbaits are made to be used in fields with large cover such as, grass, logs and stumps.
Discover Surface Lures
Another kind of modern fishing lures used in nonprofessional fishing
is surface lures. These are also identified as top water lures and are designed to float on the water while
waddling and nipping across the water surface when being recalled by the
user. As a result of these movements, they resemble
surface prey of the fish such as frogs and small fish. Furthermore, a full grown fish would make sharp and noisy jolt when taking the
surface lure and thence, using this method of fishing is regarded to be relatively
exciting.
What Are Spoon Lures?
Spoon lures are an
charging type that is made out of metal and has a concave reflect light that acts haphazardly to
appeal fish. Eversince the invention of the spoon lure by Julio T. Buel the basic design had rested the identical end-to-end the years. Moreover, the fishermen believe that $[color versions of the
lure$] help to increase catch. That is why colors such as silver and gold are plated on the lures to make it more vibrant.
The Effectiveness of Darwin’s Theory of Evolution
November 3rd, 2009
If indeed, the differentiations between the higher groupings termed Classes and Sub-kingdoms might be accounted for in the same way is a much more difficult question. The differences that distinguish the mammals, birds, reptiles, and fishes from one another, although large, yet appear to be of the comparable nature as those which separate a mouse from an elephant or a finch from a grouse. But the vertebrate animals and the insects are so largely distinct in their structure and in the very plan of their bodily structure, that protesters may not unreasonably doubt whether they can all have been descended from a common ancestor by way of the same natural laws that explain the specialization of the diverse species of birds or of reptiles.
Antecedent to Darwin, the large majority of naturalists held firmly to the belief that species were ontological, and had not been derived from other species by any law accessible to us. There was, then, no dubiousness relating to the origin of families, orders, and classes, because the “origin of species” was considered to be an unsolvable problem. Today all changed. The entire scientific and literary world admits, as a matter of commonplace knowledge, the origin of species from other allied species by the ordinary process of natural birth.
What we may expect a true theory will endow us to grasp and implement in some detail those changes in the form, structure, and relations of animals and plants which are modified in short periods of geologic time and that are now going on around us. We may expect this theory to explain with satisfaction most of the lesser and superficial differences which identify one species from another. And, finally, we may ask that it explain many troubles and to harmonize many incongruities in the excessively complex phylogenetic relations and relations of living things. All this the Darwinian Theory undoubtedly does. It exhibits how, by means of some of the most universal and ever-acting laws in nature, new species are needfully produced, while the old species become extinct. Evolution theory also enables us to understand how the uninterrupted process of these laws during the long periods is calculated to bring about those greater differences portrayed by the distinct genera, families, and orders into which all living things are classified by naturalists.
Fortunately the burdensomeness of this subject has been lightened with a good dose of evolution humor, popping up on web sites and office doors. See some of this evolution humor here.
Efficient Energy Extraction
October 5th, 2009
This type of generator has several advantages to it such as, because of the fact that it can be placed at the bottom close to the ground, the tower does not have to support the generator can be placed at the bottom, not only that but the wind turbines do not need to be pointed in the direction of the wind. Although it certainly has its advantages, the turbine also has its disadvantages. Some of the disadvantages are that it is not an easy task to mount vertical axis turbines onto towers, because of this they normally have to operate slower and get the turbulent air flow close to the ground, which results in a less efficient energy extraction. We are now seeing more advancement in solar power technology, we are witnessing a resurgence in solar power systems. Though solar panels still absorb solar energy when it’s cloudy outside, it produces more energy when they’re exposed to direct sunlight. While it may sound complicated at first, it can actually be quite simple if you know what you are doing. I’ve done all the research for you by breaking down the process of building a wind powered turbine into 3 easy steps. Let’s have a look!1. A Wind Powered PlanThe most important step in building your own green energy system is to make a plan. You need to know exactly what you will need to do and which materials you will need to do it. This means detailed schematics for your wind turbine as well as the materials you will need to build it. Finding an accurate schematic can be rather difficult to find
Algebra Skills Are Important in Today’s World
October 3rd, 2009
Algebra is good at differentiating relationships between things that vary from time to time. For example, the relationship between a person’s income and grow of his expenses could be determined and figured using elementary algebraic equations. Math is not an easy subject for most students. Many software applications are available with a variety of lesson explanations so students of any intellectual level can find the way that works for him/her. It also assists students to comprehend importance of Algebra in real life as well as within industry levels. Greater functions utilized in algebra include Graphing radical inequalities, Solving compound inequalities , Solving quadratic inequalities, Adding and Subtracting matrices etc.
Although algebra is an easy to follow course of study, students may face a lot of trouble if they do not practice the basic concepts hard enough. This makes initial math skills necessary to help students successfully pass algebra and advance into graduate math with assurance.
How to Succeed in Algebra
The algebra software on offer in the market today offer far more useful guidelines and help than what is included in formal textbooks, such as homework assistance, interactive tutorials, games and a worksheet tool or graphing calculator. The high quality software will have all these features as well as easy usability and coverage of wide area of subject matter.
The teaching tools are always useful when methods like text, audio, animation, video and games are put in to use. Schools and colleges require that students complete algebra courses from pre-algebra to algebra II. Important topics in these courses are: Finding complement of an angle, inverse of functions, finding type of polynomial, determine if line is Factoring sum of cubes, Simplifying radical expressions , Solving exponential equations and Solving system of equations by addition etc.
How to Utilize Algebra Software
Some algebraic software would only show results, while some other (much more suitable for elementary algebra) give away techniques and ‘how-to’ guides on mathematical concepts that are being used. The most important software feature from the students perspective is the ease of use. Thus, the software should be bundled with value added components like high quality and timely user support, coordinated help options, and easy to understand algebra tutorials.
Real Life Algebra
July 31st, 2009
Algebra is one of the key branches of maths which studies structure, relation and quantity. Numbers, symbols, elements, and variables are all within the domain of algebra. Students are presented fundamental constructs and methodologies of solving equations in elementary algebra like solving quadratic systems of inequalities, understanding polynomials along with factoring binomials, trinomials and polynomials as well as the determination of their roots.
Linear inequalities are the simplest to solve. An extension of linear equations leads to the simultaneous equations with two or three variables. As we move on further in the sequence to quadratic, bi-quadratic and cubic equations, they are more complex in nature and tougher to solve.
The Origin of Algebra
Elementary algebra constitutes the intermediate or college algebra. Apart from addressing mathematical expressions, it also consists of all kinds of equations like linear , quadratic and cubic. In algebra, all shapes such as a circle, hyperbola or parabola are presented by equations.
The equations can be solved to generate a graph. Lines are the product of graphing simple linear equations. Systems of equations can too be resolved graphically which is sometimes easier. A system of equations is two or more equations with the same number of variables. It can be both linear and non-linear. Systems of equations with inequalities (example; x>y) when graphed gives an area on the graph which matches the inequality condition.
Matrices help find solution to a lot of complex problems like the ones existing in electrical networks. A matrix is a rectangular array of numbers presented in rows and columns. A matrix consist of many numbers and they are called entries. Different functions like addition, multiplication and decomposition can be performed on matrices thereby offering functional solutions for theoretical questions.
How to Find Assistance for Algebra?
