The Claddagh ring was originally worn by men, but later used as a Marriage Ring for Men and Women. The symbol is comprised of 2 hands, a heart and a crown. The hands symbolize the 2 parties involved. The heart is the seat of affection or love. And the crown perfection. So, a perfect union of love between 2 parties. Common word translations to the Claddagh are: Friendship (hands), Love (heart) and Loyalty (crown).
Harp Emblem: Its Importance in Irish History The harp symbol has been recognized as the emblem of Ireland since the 13th century. It was officially adopted as Ireland’s national symbol when the Irish Free State was created in 1922. The most famous Harp of Ireland is the Brian Boru harp which is located at the Trinity College in Dublin. The Boru harp is the oldest surviving Irish harp, and is the model used for the State emblem.

In the Christian faith, it represents the Holy Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Trinity symbol has been inscribed in stone, and also has been colored. Red for power, faith, language and sacrifice. Blue -represents faith and trust. Green -color of the plants and trees, suggests hope of life eternal.
Celtic Cross: The Celtic Cross is possibly the best known symbol of Early Christianity in Ireland. The High Celtic Cross is a self contained monument, and are as high as 20 feet. They are generally made of sandstone, and their main characteristic feature is a circle connecting the arms. The rings around the high cross may have been a symbol of the cosmos, and at the center is the Crucificition of Christ. Or, the ring may have been a structural piece, to prevent the arms of the cross from snapping off. There are many decorations on the crosses many including scenes from the bible, while others feature animal Interlace, and scroll work. The crosses at Monasterboise and Cross of Scriptures, Clonmacnoise are good examples for the traditional Celtic Cross.

One of the symbols most associated with Irieand is the Brian Boru Harp. This Harp is now located in the Long room, at the Trinity College Library, in Dublin. The harp is the national symbol of Ireland.
Short Irish History:
Irelands Areas of Historical Interest: Interesting sites in Ireland include: Bru na Boinne (Newgrange), Boyne Valley, Ceide Fields, Clonmacnoise, Croagh Patrick, Dun Aengus, Glendalough, Hill of Tara, Lough Derg, Skellig Michael, Rock of Cashel.
Bru na Boinne “Boyne Palace”: Ireland’s Stonehenge One of Ireland’s most spectacular archaeological sites is located in the Boyne Valley in County Meath. Newgrange, Dowth and Knowth were built around the same time that Stonehenge was erected in England. These tombs were built around 3200 B.C., several centuries before the great pyramids of Egypt. The exact reason these sites were built is unknown, but one of their features, is that they may have been used as an ancient form of solar calendar. The Newgrange site was designed to catch the sun during the winter solstice (December 19-23), the rising sun shines thru a slit over the entrance, and lights up the burial chamber for 17 minutes. At Dowth, the light of the setting sun of the solstice illuminates one of the chambers. At Knowth, the rising sun of the spring and autumn equinoxes lights the eastern passage, while the setting sun may have caught the western passage those days.
Clonmacnoise (Offaly) An early Christian monastic site founded by Saint Ciaran in the 6th century on the banks of the River Shannon at the crossroads of Ireland in County Offaly. The Clonmacnoise location borders the three provinces of Connaught, Munster and Leinster. The monastery is on the east side of the River Shannon, in what was then the Kingdom of Meath, but occupying a position so central it was the burial-place of many of the kings of Connaught as well as those of Tara. The site includes the ruins of a cathedral, eight churches (10th-13th century), two round towers, three high crosses and a large collection of early Christian grave slabs. The original high crosses and grave slabs are on display in the Visitor Centre.
Hill of Tara (Meath) Though best known as the seat of the High Kings of Ireland. 142 kings are said to have reigned there in prehistoric and historic times. The Hill of Tara has been an important site since the late Stone Age when a passage-tomb was constructed there. Tara was at the height of its power as a political and religious centre in the early centuries after Christ. Features of the Hill of Tara include the Mound of the Hostages, the Stone of Destiny, and Ancient Standing Stones Rock of Cashel (Tipperary) This was the seat of kings and mediaeval bishops for 900 years and flourished until the early 17th century. A spectacular group of stone fort Medieval buildings set on an outcrop of limestone in the Golden Vale. Features include 12th century round tower, High Cross and Romanesque Chapel, 13th century Gothic cathedral, 15th century Castle and the restored Hall of the Vicars Choral. The original forbidding fortification of the Eoghanachta, kings of Munster. Brian Bor was crowned King of Munster here in 977 and he became High King of Ireland in 1002. He was the first high king to exact universal and effective tribute from the other kings of Ireland.
Dun Aengus: Dn Aonghasa (Dun Aengus - Angus’ Fort) The mysterious structure of Dun Aengus is situated on the western side of Inish Mr, one of the three Aran Islands (Oilein rainn), stone outcrops, in the Atlantic thirty miles (48 kms) west of Galway City. The islands, Inish Mr, Inishmann and Inisheer have some of Europe’s finest examples of pre-historic and early Christian antiquities.Dun Aengus is a vast fortification perched on the summit of a hill that rises precipitously from the ocean to a height of 300 feet (100 meters). Half the site, consisting of three concentric enclosures, has fallen into the sea, but what is left makes a fascinating sight. The cliff edge at Cahercommoun in the Burren is Early Christian and Dn Aonghasa is believed to be much older. Dun Aengus has been estimated to have been built anywhere from 900BC to 500C.
Glendalough (Wicklow) This early Christian monastic site was founded by St. Kevin in the 6th century. Set in a glaciated valley with two lakes, the monastic remains include a superb round tower, stone churches and decorated crosses. In the 6th centaury St. Kevin founded a monastery and from this grew a monastic city, which became famous as a centre of learning throughout Europe. The spectacular Round Tower in the Monastic City stands an impressive 34m high and 16m in circumference. The tower was originally built as a bell tower and a place of refuge when the monastery was attacked. There are many stone crosses and churches to see. As well as these magnificent remains, there is the breathtaking scenery of the valley to enjoy.
Croagh Patrick (Mayo) Is a holy mountain in Ireland, located in south Mayo, 5 miles from Westport, and on Clew Bay. It is a conical mountain that is said to be the place where St. Patrick banished the snakes from Ireland. Today it is a pilgrimage spot, where visitors from all over the world. It is said that St. Patrick fasted for 40 days at the summit of the mountain. Croagh Patrick is also known as the “Reek”, and on “Reek Sunday”, the last Sunday in July, thousands come to follow the steps of Patrick. Today, a church sits on the top of the “Reek”. Building Package Tracking
February 27th, 2009
Living in a high rise building, the process of package delivery is pretty amazing, if you check out the building package tracking software in the back room you will be amazed. This also applies to the systems in condos, those condo package tracking systems are also advanced and can be used to track hundreds of packages. In my case I needed parts for my new kitchen, those included mostly counter top parts, those are big and heavy and not always fit right.
Kitchen countertop is one of those things that will really make a difference in homes look and even total value. If you are involved in the real estate business you are familiar with people commenting on kitchen countertop.
If you are selling a home with a marble countertop, you may want to mention that to the prospective buyer during the house tour since you know that will definitely increase its total value and allow for more bargaining at the end. That is why it may be worth investing in the decoration of a house prior to selling since a few thousand dollars worth of investment can actually transcribe to many more thousands of dollars at the very end.

Picking The Best Baby Shower Games
February 25th, 2009
There is no doubt that baby showers are fun and exciting. Baby showers are a great way for the friends, family members and coworkers of the expectant mother to celebrate the creation of a new life.
A pregnancy, whether or not it is a first pregnancy, is always an exciting time in the life of any woman. Celebrating the special time with a baby shower is a long standing tradition.
== Games Bring Excitement To The Baby Shower ==
Another long standing tradition is for the guests at the baby shower to play a number of exciting games. Games are a great way to bring excitement and interest to any baby shower, and there are a number of popular games that everyone in attendance will enjoy.
==Taking The Personality Of The Mother To Be Into Account When Picking The Games ==
For those who are organizing a baby shower, however, it can be difficult to know what games are appropriate. When deciding on the games to be played, it is important to take the personality of the expectant mother into account.
Is she the shy reserved type or does she have a bold and outgoing personality? Would she prefer games that focus on her, or would she rather have games that include everyone in attendance?
While getting the answers to these important questions will always involve some amount of guesswork, one of the best ways to answer them, especially if you do not know the expectant mother very well, is to ask her closest friends and family members.
Asking the people who know the mother to be best is a great way to decide which games will be most appreciated.
== Get Ideas From People You Know ==
Another great way to find the best games for the baby shower is to ask your own friends and family members about baby showers they have attended. Games are a staple of just about every baby shower, so chances are the people you know will have some stories about the best, and worst, baby shower games they have played.
Games can make every baby shower even more exciting than it already is. The key is to make the games inclusive and fun for both the mother to be and her guests.

Communicate and Prosper!
February 25th, 2009
How much has poor communication cost your company in the past
twelve months? Chances are, you have no idea. Chances are even
better it’s a lot more than you can afford.
But you won’t find the numbers in the financial statements or year-end
departmental reports. Nothing shows up saying “lost productivity due to
miserable meetings” or “missed business opportunities through sorry
selling skills” or “employee quit because there’s no communication
around here.”
Why? Because most people aren’t sure what communication really is.
Consider this: When companies conduct internal needs assessments,
communication virtually always surfaces near the top of the list. But if
you ask ten people who put it on the list exactly what they meant, you’ll
get ten different answers. People often can’t pinpoint the problemthey
just have a vague feeling communication isn’t happening.
Unfortunately, this vagueness relegates communication to the bottom of
the action list.
Truth is, communication isn’t some warm and fuzzy “nice to have” it is
nothing less than the lifeblood of your organization. If blood doesn’t
circulate at just the right pressure and speed to all parts and extremities
of the human body, that body sickens and eventually dies. So, too, does
an organization where communication doesn’t flow freely.
Communication isn’t limited to vision and mission statements from the
top; it’s not just news releases publicizing financial results or new
product announcements; it’s not just internal or client newsletters,
annual reports or videotaped messages to the troops. These are all
important, but they form just a fraction of the communicationand
miscommunicationthat takes place every day in the workplace.
What I call applied communication is written, spoken and non-verbal
interaction among people in order to get things done. It takes co-
operation to create a product. It takes collaboration to approach a new
market. It takes teamwork to implement a strategy. It takes this applied
communication to oil and run the machinery of business. And if that
machinery breaks downas it often doesa great deal of money is lost.
It’s in this area, applied communication, that we need to look for the
financial drain.
Loss of time
What does your time cost the company for each hour you are at work? A
good rule of thumb in calculating hourly cost is: annual salary divided by
2000 (based on 50 40-hour weeks). When you know this figure for your
own time as well as that of your staff, you can begin to calculate the cost
of applied communication at work.
Meetings
Regardless of its purpose, a meeting is an exercise in applied
communication: you speak, you listen, you interact. I’ve never met
anyone in business who has not complained about meetings: too many,
too long, too boring. I would add to that: too expensive.
Consider meetings that are supposed to last an hour but somehow
expand to use up most of the afternoon. Calculate the hourly cost of total
participant time and multiply by the length of the meetingand keep in
mind that the higher level the participants the more expensive the time.
The result may not sound too alarming, until you consider how many of
those meetings take place in your organization every day, every week,
every year. Do the arithmetic.
Correspondence
Letters, reports, memos, and now the ubiquitous e-mailwritten
communication is an integral part of doing business. Unfortunately,
statistics show that corporate employees spend altogether too much
time writing it, and badly at that, so that those on the receiving end
spend too much time reading it!
If a $40,000-a-year employee spends just two hours a day reading,
writing and managing e-mail, that’s a $9,000 annual cost. Judging from
what people tell me about their work habits, two hours a day is a
conservative estimate. And what about those at much higher salary
levels who spend much longer writing every day? Do the arithmetic.
Presentations
People at all levels present information in a variety of settings in the
workplace every day. These presentations not only consume many
hours in the creation and preparation, but also the expensive time of
those who must listen to them. Unfortunately, poor presentation skills
often result in a futile exercise that communicates less than a simple
written report. How many useless presentations take place in a major
corporation every day? Do the arithmetic.
Loss of business
Sometimes salespeople know their “pitch” so well that they totally ignore
any input a prospective customer might give them. They barely shake
hands and sit down before they start talking. They blithely prescribe their
product or service as the cure for a problem, without even finding out if
such a problem even exists.
But an effective sales process is, in fact, a conversation, a two-way
exercise in applied communication. Done poorly, it can result in lost
sales and missed opportunity for ongoing business relationships.
Customer loss doesn’t happen only in the sales process, but can also
be spurred by an inept “customer service” exchange. When someone
calls to complain, the client relationship is at a fragile point. It can be
repaired through the right message well delivered, or broken beyond
repair by poor communication. When we consider the total lifetime value
of a customer relationship, we can truly appreciate the real dollar cost of
poor communication.
Loss of people
Whatever people tell their bosses about their reasons for leaving the
company, exit interviews often tell a different story. One of the most
common reasons cited is that they don’t feel anyone listened to them.
Day after day in the workplace, millions of people go through the
motions of talking with each other in person and on the phone,
constantly connected through technology, and never truly
communicating with one another. Study after study tells us that
recognition and respect are more motivating than money, and one of the
best ways to show people they are valued is to listen to them. Sadly,
listening is probably the most underused of all the communication skills.
So people leave. How much then does it cost to replace them? Studies
give a wide range, from a low of 25% of salary, plus benefits, to a
whopping 150%. Employee replacement represents yet another huge
cost that can at least sometimes be charged to poor communication.
By improving the way people (and I mean people at all levels) interact in
order to get things done, we can increase productivitywith its
attendant positive impact on the bottom line.

RV Dump Stations and Holding Tanks
February 23rd, 2009
RV dump stations everywhere are closing down operation due to several reasons. Some, but not all of these reasons are the costs and headaches involved to keep them operating and properly maintained, the wrong types of chemicals used by RVers and because of neglect and poor housekeeping by people who use these dump stations.
RV holding tanks are used to hold, or store waste water until a sewer system is available to empty the tanks. Because little water is used, in comparison to a domestic waste water system, RV holding tank wastewater is far more concentrated. Adding to the problem are the chemicals required to assist in breaking down the waste and controlling odors. This requires more treatment than a regular house type waste system and it complicates disposal of RV holding tank waste. In many cases it is much easier to just close the dump station.
The problem that the average RVer is confronted with is how to control holding tank odors. Formaldehyde based chemicals do a better job of controlling odors. The problem with this is the organic strength from the mixture in an RV holding tank can be fifteen to twenty times stronger than a typical wastewater system. This leads to more complications for dump station owners. This problem is compounded when the RVer gets some odors from the holding tank and dumps even more chemicals in the holding tank in an attempt to control the odors. I recommend environmentally friendly enzyme based chemicals that use natural organic chemicals. They have a lower organic strength, which is better for the dump station but they don’t control odors as well as formaldehyde compounds.
Something else to consider is how much water you add to the holding tank when you use the toilet. Think about the toilet in your house. Even water saver toilets use about 1.6 gallons of water when you flush it, plus there is water in the bowl. The water level in your holding tank can help to control odors. You need to get in the habit of adding additional water to the holding tank whenever you flush the toilet. It is absolutely necessary that you keep the water level above the contents of the holding tank to help control odors.
Something that I think happens frequently is that people don’t add enough water after they empty their holding tanks. You need to know what size holding tank you have and make sure you add enough water to completely cover the bottom of the tank each time you empty it. One RV holding tank might only need three or four gallons to cover the bottom of the tank where another one might need ten or more gallons.
Happy Camping!

Finally a Rival to Apple’s iTunes - BSkyB to Launch Music Download Service
February 23rd, 2009
There will soon be a rival to Apple’s iTunes service. BSkyB, on the first day of the Mobile World Congress in
A BSkyB spokesperson said that they have already entered into a deal with Universal Music, the label biggies, who currently have artists like Amy Winehouse, Kanye West and Duffy under their label. Later, the spokesperson while speaking to news agency Reuters, also said that though BSkyB’s launch schedule of the service has been delayed, their talks with several big and independent labels have shown good progress. Very soon, BSkyB is also likely to conclude suitable arrangements with other music publishers.
The launch of this new service would allow ardent music fans to store music without having to bother about Digital Rights Management, and they will be able to enjoy the music on television, computer and any other device. Customers of both Sky and non-Sky broadband, after paying a small fee per month, would have access to unlimited digital music and will also be able to download their favourite tunes from a selection of more than a million tracks.
Globally, around 40 billion tracks last year were downloaded either through illegal sharing amongst peers or via music piracy - these put together contributed to almost 95% of all online music downloads in 2008. This data was shared by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), the noted industry body. Of late, many ways to combat the music piracy problem have been suggested; most notable of these was the suggestion to enforce tax on music downloads. However, initiatives like this one by BSkyB are a preferred way to deal with this large-scale problem.
