Things You Find in the Kitchen to Remove Warts
January 31st, 2009
“Old is gold” is the saying goes and this is true when it comes to removing warts as well. Although the most of the warts are unsightly skin tag or blemish and they can disappear over time but some warts like Planter warts due to constant pressure of the body weight requires medical intervention to get relief from the pain. There are several simple old ways to remove warts which could come as near as from our kitchen. Because the procedure provided by the doctor could be very painful as these procedures could often use small surgery etc. we should first try these natural ways.
There is also a good article on detailed methods to getting rid of warts at home: Natural treatment & removal of warts
Some of the kitchen items which can be used to remove warts could be as simple as Potatoes, banana peels, Vinegar, Caster Oil or even duct tape. In order to use Potatoes take a few pieces of freshly cut potatoes and rub it on the wart. Try it several times a day and this will result in complete removal of your warts in few weeks or months time. I accept that this is a very slow process but good part is it’s natural and does not cause any pain, what is required is a few weeks of patience. We can similarly use banana peels and rub in the area of warts. We can even use adhesive tape to apply in the area to stick. This will again be a slow process but very natural. To get little bit faster result you can use Apple Cider Vinegar. Simply take a cotton ball and soak it with apple cider vinegar. The cotton ball in turn could be applied to the wart area using a wart tape every night. Since cider vinegar is acidic in nature this may cause some irritation. This should show results in more than a week or so. But one of the most traditional and natural ways to get rid of warts is Caster Oil but this is rather slow and would take several weeks. We can use the Caster Oil either internally with juice which would provide immunity to the body to fight the viruses causes the wart or we can directly apply the juice from the leaves to the wart to get relief.
Key to get rid of warts is to improve the immune system of our body against the virus which causes warts. So consuming foods rich in Vitamin C for example lemon or orange juice could be a good remedy against the wart. We should drink ample water. Treating wart is simple process but could take time like any other natural treatment methodologies.
Diaper Cake Instructions

What is a Baby Diaper Cake?
A baby diaper cake is a gift of disposable diapers, receiving blankets, hooded towels, onesies, gowns and miscellaneous baby items to give to a mom-to-be or a new mom. You can design the baby diaper cake to fit the little one’s needs or create a theme.
What do I need to create a baby diaper cake?
To create a two tier diaper cake you will need the following ingredients:
* 25 Disposable Diapers - Usually Size 1/2 for newborns
* A receiving blanket
* A burp cloth
* Bib (optional)
* 8 or 9 oz. Baby Bottle
* 10 miscellaneous baby items (booties, rattles, teethers, washcloths, pacifiers, baby socks, plush toys, shampoos, lotions, etc)
* 9 or 10″ Cake Board
* Cake Ruffle or Doily
* Dressmaker pins
To start we will fold the receiving blanket in half, then in thirds. Fold the end in until they touch. Pin the ends together. Stand the receiving blanket up and form it into a circle. You are going to fill this circle with about 15-20 diapers.
Next, you are going to fold the burp cloth in thirds and pin the ends together. Stand the burp cloth up and form it into a circle. Place the bottle in the middle and surround it with the remaining diapers.
Stack the smaller tier of the baby diaper cake on top of the larger tier. Begin tucking baby items into the diapers. Be sure to fit some items snuggly against the top tier to secure it a bit. Be creative with how you tuck in items like washcloths; try to fan them a bit before tucking them into the diapers.
You shouldn’t have to tape any items down. If you tuck your items in securely you won’t need any tape or rubber bands.
Wrap your cake in tulle or cello wrap and tie with a big bow. Baby Diaper Cakes are a unique baby gift that moms-to-be or new moms will love. Baby Diaper Cakes make a terrific baby shower gift. It will be the talk of the baby shower!

What To Know When Buying Binoculars
January 30th, 2009
We are asked nearly every day: “What are your best binoculars?” And every day we answer: “How do you plan on using them?” We are not trying to be evasive with our answer, but the truth of the matter is - the best binoculars for one purpose may be the worse binoculars for another. We want you to Get It Right The First Time.
Understanding your application is paramount in determining the best fit - for you. Although there are many other specifications and qualities which determine the usefulness of binoculars, we will discuss in this article the primary characteristics for determining the best fit for your application. But before we show you the list, we should go over some basic terminology.
What do the numbers on binoculars mean? All sporting optics (binoculars, spotting scopes, night vision goggles, etc.) use the same nomenclature to describe important features. As an example, a pair of binoculars may have 10×42mm listed as a technical specification. But what does this mean? The “10″ refers to the magnification power of the binoculars - that is - objects viewed will appear to be 10 times closer than when they are viewed by the naked eye. The second number in our example is “42mm.” This refers to the diameter, in millimeters, of the objective lenses on the binoculars. The objective lenses are located on the end of the binoculars furthest away from your eye when viewing. As with the aperture of a camera lens, the size of objective lens determines the amount of light that can enter your binoculars. If your binoculars are going to be used during low light (hunting and astronomy are good examples) you had better have large objective lenses.
Another important number describing binoculars is called field-of-view. A field-of-view of 390′ indicates that the width of the sight picture is 390 feet at a distance of 1000 yards. Field-of-view is determined by magnification and the focal lengths of the objective and eyepiece lenses. More magnification always means less field-of-view. This specification is sometimes expressed in degrees. A field-of-view of 6.5 degrees equates to 341′ (6.5 times 52.5 equals 341).
How well your binoculars will serve you in low light conditions is described as Twilight Performance. Although many things, such as overall design and quality of glass impact this specification, magnification and objective lens diameter are the chief components. A quick way to determine the Twilight Performance of binoculars is to multiply the magnification power (first number) times the objective lens diameter (second number). The higher the result, the better the Twilight Performance. As an example, 10×42mm binoculars will have better Twilight Performance than 8×50mm binoculars (420 versus 400).
Now that we understand some basic terminology, here is “What to Know When Buying Binoculars.”
* While compact binoculars weigh as little as a pound, by using them you will undoubtedly sacrifice performance. If performance is your main consideration, full sized binoculars are preferred. Anything weighing over about 1.5 pounds will get heavy fairly fast. Use a binocular support system to evenly distribute the weight across your shoulders instead of using a strap around your neck.
* The amount of light available while using your binoculars will determine -more than any other consideration - which binoculars are best for you. Low light uses such as hunting, birding and astronomy require larger objective lenses.
* The distance you will be from the object you view will determine the magnification power required in a pair of binoculars. If your application is bird watching, theater or sporting events, a low powered binocular will suffice in most cases. But if you’re into astronomy, you’ll need a high powered pair.
* The minimum focal point in binocular terminology refers to how near an object can be to you and be still be viewed in focus. This tends to be important for birding but not so important for most other uses.
* Binoculars with a magnification power greater than 10x (and without a stability feature) will be difficult to hold steady. This becomes important when viewing the night sky or distant mountains. A tripod may be a good thing to have if you’re using binoculars with high magnification.
* Using your binoculars outdoors will usually subject them to moisture. Waterproof binoculars are preferred for all marine, hunting, birding and other nature related activities.
* The greater the magnification, the narrower the field-of-view. If field-of-view is important to you, don’t purchase the most powerful binoculars you can find. This becomes very important when viewing objects that move quickly such as antelope, race horses, shooting stars or race cars.
* As with almost everything else in life, with binoculars you get what you pay for. There are binoculars that cost under $10 and others which cost in excess of $2,500. My experience says you will need to spend at least $250 for a pair of binoculars worth having.
* There is no such thing as “one-size-fits-all” when it comes to sporting optics. If you have multiple uses for binoculars, you will most likely end up with multiple pairs of them - and that’s O.K.
Your understanding of these few simple tips will not only help you in acquiring the correct binoculars for your application, but they will also help you with successful viewing - no matter what you’re looking at.

Mommy & Baby: Nursing Questions & Answers
January 26th, 2009
Q. How often should I nurse a newborn infant?
A. No fewer than 8 times per day, depending on how long he gives you at night. If he can go 4 hours, you’ll probably see two feedings in between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. If you tank him up right before you go to bed, you may only have one.
Q. How often should I nurse an older baby?
A. Depending on your child’s age, you should be on a 3-4 hour routine during the day. Remember, as your child gets older, the frequency of nursing sessions will drop off, but he will be eating more at each session. If you are committed to nursing past 6 months of age, it’s not recommended that you drop below 5 feedings per day. If you believe your milk supply is waning and you don’t want to stop breastfeeding, add a feeding or two to your daily routine in order to increase your milk supply
Q. How do I drop a feeding as my baby grows?
A. The most common changes are moms who want to switch from a 3 to a 3.5 hour routine or a 3.5 to a 4 hour routine, babies who are ready to drop their middle of the night feeding, or parents who are ready to stop the late-night feeding.
Most often you’ll know when your baby is ready to switch by a change in his sleep patterns. A baby on a 3 hour routine typically takes 3 naps per day (morning, afternoon, late afternoon) and the switchover to a 3.5 hour routine will see a shortening of one of those naps or the dropping of the last nap of the day. Babies are generally ready for this switch by about 12 weeks of age.
Dropping the middle of the night feeding is most often accomplished by the baby himself between 7-14 weeks of age. You’ll know your baby is ready when he doesn’t wake you up until 6:00 a.m. or so, and you’ll probably wake in a panic that morning, realizing you weren’t beckoned in the middle of the night. He will require more food during the day from this point on, and your breasts will likely be overly full for several days, but it’s all good!
Stopping the late night feeding is typically the trickiest to do. Many parents are reluctant to drop it, thinking that if they do, their baby will wake in the middle of the night, starving. If you think he cannot drop the feeding completely, back it up in 15-minute increments until you arrive at your desired time. If his last two feedings of the day are closer than your flexible schedule says it “should be,” don’t worry. It’s a temporary fix, and that’s what flexibility is all about. The routine serves you, not the other way around!

Tripling the Fun with Baby Shower Games
January 25th, 2009
A baby shower is not usually organized by the mother or father-to-be, but by their close friends or family members. These parties are designed to make the prospective parents feel that the people closest to them are celebrating their good fortune and are happy about the coming addition to the family. Parties like these are usually fun and full of good will, but they can be even more enlivened with baby shower games. These games provide more laughs and smiles, and they can be instrumental in bringing friends and families closer for an auspicious event - the coming of a baby.
A baby shower can have guests from a few couples to several dozen. Sometimes the larger the party is, the greater the chance that the guests do not know one another. People from all walks of life may find themselves in one room together for a few hours for the party: from Dad’s colleagues at work to Mom’s high school gang. Baby shower games are a great way to break the so-called ice, make the guests feel more comfortable with one another and remind them that they are present for a common cause: to celebrate the coming of a baby, the child of their friend or relative.
Organizers of baby shower party games should remember to keep activities short and simple. Games that are too complicated will not achieve the desired goal of letting the participants feel at ease with one another. Also, having complicated activities runs the risk of breeding boredom or resentment, either of which could cause guests to make a beeline for the door - something that the parents-to-be will not appreciate. So what party games would be ideal for a baby shower?
If you’re the party organizer, you would not want for game ideas; there are literally hundreds of suggestions and tips offered on web sites. Arguably, the most popular game would be the “Baby Food Game.” Participants are required to guess the name of the content of baby food jars whose labels have been removed. Variations of this game include placing the jar’s contents in a diaper and having the guests identify the baby food in the diaper, or having a guest describe a kind of baby food in unattractive ways (such as “mashed monkey food” for “banana”) and getting other game participants to guess the food being described.
Another example of baby shower games that is guaranteed to bring on the guffaws and jibes is the “Who Am I?” game. This activity needs a bit more preparation, but it may well be worth it. Basically, what this game entails is to show baby pictures of guests and game participants do their best to guess the identity of the person in the baby picture. An easier variant of this game would be to have the emcee announce something about the character trait of a guest, and have other people guess who he or she is referring to. For instance, the host can say something like, “When this person was a child, he or she always drew on the walls with crayons. It’s not a surprise then that he or she is now an artist.”
Another example of fun party games for baby showers is something called “What Am I Drinking?” Participants are blindfolded and asked to drink from baby’s bottles. All they have to do is identify what they’re drinking. The one with the greatest number of correct guesses wins the game. Another great guessing game would be “What’s in the Bag?” As the name of the game implies, participants are asked to name the contents of a bag and the person who gets the highest number of correct guesses wins.
It would be even more fun if prizes are awarded to game winners. But organizers of baby shower games shouldn’t think that they have to give expensive prizes or awards. Remember that these party games are all in good fun; games with too high a stake might just foster unnecessary feelings of competitiveness. Token awards are ideal, such as pens, candles, foodstuff, or perhaps a kiss or hug from the mother or father-to-be? That would certainly bring on lots of cheers and good-natured laughter.
Organizers should also remember to keep the number of baby shower games in moderation. Don’t plan ten games for a two-hour party; two or three games will suffice, and spare enough time for eating, chit-chat, and gift-opening. Planned and done right, these party games will make any baby shower an affair to remember.

Hammock Care- Tips on cleaning and storing hammocks without spreader bars.
January 24th, 2009
If you plan on machine washing your hammock start by holding the two hanging end rings in your hands and bring them together, folding the hammock in half. Tie the hammock together with string just below the hanging rings. Tie the hammock together again, at the opposite end, and once more in the middle of the hammock. This should prevent the metal rings from becoming entangled with the string bed of the hammock, and the strings themselves from getting tangled as well. Put the tied up hammock into a pillowcase, and tie the pillowcase closed. Be sure to tie it securely, as the washing machine has rigorous agitation, and you do not want the hammock to come out of the pillow. Use mild detergent to wash your hammock. DO NOT USE BLEACH. After washing your hammock, carefully remove it from it’s pillowcase and untie. Hang up your hammock and spread out as much as possible to dry completely.
If you plan on hand washing your hammock start by holding the two hanging rings in your hands, bring them together, folding the hammock in half. Tie the hammock together with string just below the hanging rings. Tie the hammock together again, at the opposite end, and once more in the middle of the hammock. This should prevent the metal rings from becoming entangled with the string bed of the hammock, and the strings themselves from getting tangled as well. In a large sink or bathtub, immerse the hammock in water mixed with a mild detergent and again, DO NOT USE BLEACH. With your hands, agitate the water until you feel the hammock is clean. After washing, carefully untie and unfold the hammock. Hang up hammock and spread out to dry completely.
After you’re done washing and want to store your hammock, start by making sure your hammock is clean and completely dry, hold the two hanging rings in your hands, bring them together, folding the hammock in half. Tie the hammock together with string just below the hanging rings, and again just above the point where the hammock bed begins, to prevent tangling. When storing, it’s important to protect against moisture, soiling and critters. The easiest way to prevent these threats to your hammock is to use a storage bag made of outdoor, weather resistant, durable fabric that allows the hammock to breath. If you do not have a storage bag, hang the hammock from its metal rings in your garage or basement, or anywhere it will remain dry and out of the way. If you find any mold or mildew when you bring your hammock out the next season, we recommend using a mild detergent.

Choosing Decorations for a Baby Shower
January 23rd, 2009
No party is complete without decorations and a baby shower is no exception. There are many different decorations ideas you can use for a baby shower party depending on how much time you have to plan the event and what you are willing to spend.
Baby shower decorations range from simple to extravagant depending on what you are looking for. Decorations add a certain ambience to a baby shower and can turn the event into a memorable occasion for the expectant mother. There are scores of ideas and decoration items available to help you set up the baby shower party.
Deciding on the Type of Decorations
One way of deciding on the decorations is by choosing a theme for the baby shower. The decorations you use will be based on the chosen theme. For example, if you go in for a traditional theme, you should choose decorations that include silver and china.
A more modern theme for a baby shower nowadays is to use popular cartoon characters. Depending on the cartoon character you choose, the decorations should centre on this character. To help you choose something appropriate, visit the numerous specialty stores that stock a large selection of baby shower decorations.
Ideas for Decorations
By using your imagination and inventiveness, you can come up with attractive decorations that are neither cumbersome nor costly. A little resourcefulness will help you plan a great baby shower without spending tons of money.
When you begin decorating the venue, be careful not to go overboard with your decorations or you may end up with a place that looks garish. Stick to simple decorations such as seasonal flowers and party toys. They create a simple but warm ambience, conducive to a party amongst close friends.
If you want a more extravagant affair, you may need to buy decorative items other than flowers and a few toys. You can however, always keep these items once the party is over and use them during other occasions like birthday parties. Or you can gift the items to the couple as mementos or toys for the new baby.
Low-cost Decorations
Nothing is more festive than colorful balloons. These can be bunched together and hung on each table. To keep the balloons from rising up, tie small items like a feeding bottle or a soft toy to the string end of each balloon.
A baby bath tub can be turned into a punch bowl for the baby shower. Or it can be used as a container for all the gifts brought by the guests. The tub can be decorated with ribbons and balloons that reflect the theme of the party.
Upside down umbrellas hung from the ceiling make for interesting decorations. Colorful streamers can be attached to the ends.
With a bit of ingenuity and imagination, you can create simple, but attractive decorations for a baby shower without burning a hole in your pocket.

17 Lanzarote Beaches - Haria
January 23rd, 2009
Haria is the most northern of Lanzarotes seven municipalities. It can thank the Sahara Desert and strong winds for what some regard as Lanzarote finest beaches.
The entire coastline is known as Malpas de la Corona (”badlands”) and is strewn with white and golden sand which mingles intimately with volcanic magma forming small sheltered bays (a number of which are featured in this article), which are ideal for swimming. This preominently rural area harbours many of the natural marvels of Lanzarote such as Jameos del Agua and La Cueva de Los Verdes (See my related article 23xx on these attractions).
Our first of five beaches being reviewed in this area is known as El Caletn Blanco (”The big inlet”) measuring half a kilometre long and 9 m. wide, consisting of fine white sand.
Camping is also permitted on the beach, but you’ll need to get prior municipal approval at the Lanzarote Town Council (Cabildo). There is ample space for parking and the guaguas (autobus) also stops here.
Our second beach is known as El Risco, measuring 845m long and 8m wide and consisting of fine white sand. This beach gets very windy, although Isla Graciosa shelters it to a degree from the rougher seas. It is a 400m climb down (and back up !), so not for the faint hearted. The waves are moderate.
Our third Beach is known as Caleta Caballo, measuring 60 m long and 7m wide and consisting of white sand with pebbles. It is windy with moderate waves offering good conditions for windsurfing. This is accessible by guaguas (autobus).
Our fourth Beach in this area is known as Caleta del Mojn, measuring 100 m long and 13m wide and consisting of fine white sand and picon (the small black lava stones often found in gardens).
Our fifth and final Beach in this area is known as La Garita, measuring 810m long and 5m wide and consisting of fine white/golden sand. Calm waters make this a good practising ground before you take on the stronger waves elsewhere in the area. Unlike the other rural beaches, this one is in a semi-urban area, has a boardwalk and services such as restaurants, refreshment stands, telephones, parking area, washrooms and even a children’s play area. It is accessible by guaguas (autobus).

Stepping Outdoors is Very Exciting
January 23rd, 2009
What could possible happen in six simple steps? That’s how far it is from my cabin’s front door to the propane grill. Six steps that I have taken countless times without any fanfare or concern. But things were different today and I’ll never look at this short trek without recalling how stepping outdoors can be very exciting.
After a relaxing day of hiking in the Prescott National Forest with a good friend and my two Labrador retrievers, it was time for a refreshing beverage and some dinner. With steaks in hand, I headed for the trusty grill to burn some red meat just as darkness began to take hold. This was the first time in two days that my dogs weren’t on my heels - and a good thing too. As I reached the grill in just six short steps, I heard a noise where I had just passed. Turning towards the commotion I immediately recognized both the sight and sound of the Western Diamondback Rattlesnake (Crotalus atrox), arguably the most dangerous snake in North America.
I called to my friend to come take a look but cautioned him to be careful and to under no circumstances allow the dogs to leave the cabin. After several minutes of distant viewing we decided that moving the snake was the responsible thing to do. So with a very long hiking stick, I was able to maneuver the snake away from the cabin and into the brush some five yards away. We watched it for some time as it headed away from us and back into the wild.
While this turned out to be nothing more than an exciting time, it could have turned out much different. I nearly stepped on it originally which would have been bad. We could have tried to kill the snake which could have been even worse or the dogs might have been first to the snake which could have been disastrous.
We finished our meal about half an hour later and decided to sit outside and watch the stars come out. As we stepped outdoors one last time, we saw a second Western Diamondback Rattlesnake (this one was somewhat smaller than the first one) slither into the darkness. Needless to say, we were done star gazing for the night.
Two final thoughts come to mind as I tell this story. The first one is the irony of the situation because as I have failed to mention, we were also listening to the Arizona Diamondbacks baseball game on the radio. Secondly, whenever we step outdoors to enjoy our time in the fresh air, we are stepping into a marvelous place the belongs to a vast number of creatures. The moral of the story? When you go outside, be careful where you step. Use this information and you’ll Get It Right The First Time. Get Outdoors!

Graduation Tam
The graduation tam is a hat worn by faculty members of an institution that have doctorates instead of graduation caps. The tams are not mandatory but they differentiate the doctors from other members who do not have doctorates and students as well. A graduation tam can have either four, six or eight corners depending on the person buying it. The tassels on the graduation tam are usually big and may be in gold metallic or maybe in plain. The traditional color for a tam is black although some makers have started incorporating colors like blue or red. A tam may cost differently as the dealers have different prices for their tams.
